Boynton Canyon is another favorite hike in Sedona, though the are around it certainly more built up than when I first hiked it nearly 20 years ago. But once you're in the heart of the canyon, you leave civilization behind.
Lowell Observatory on Mars Hill in Flagstaff is where Pluto was discovered 85 years ago this year. It is still a very active center for astronomical research.
