The jewel-like petrified wood and otherworldly landscape make Petrified Forest one of my favorite places to visit and photograph in Arizona. The colors and textures vary so much from one part of the park to another, a result of different minerals being deposited just a few miles apart over millions of years.
My favorite section of the park is Blue Mesa where a mile-long trail loops through the heart of this bizarre and beautiful landscape.
